15:00 – Police have confirmed that the Italian woman involved in the incident in Marsaskala has been certified as having sustained only minor injuries.

The Magisterial inquiry, along with police investigations into the case, remains ongoing.


UPDATE: Police confirm identity and age of deceased cyclist in Marsaskala crash

12:30 p.m. – Further details have emerged following this morning’s fatal crash in Marsaskala.

Police have confirmed that the cyclist who died at the scene was a 67-year-old man from ลปejtun. ย The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. on Triq Villabate and involved a Peugeot Partner van, a Nissan March, and the bicycle.

Initial reports had identified the Nissan’s driver as a 32-year-old Italian man; police have now clarified that he is 43 years old. ย A 38-year-old Italian woman, who was a passenger in the car, remains hospitalised, with her condition not yet known.

An inquiry led by Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is underway, and the police investigations remain ongoing.

 


Tragedy struck in Marsaskala on Thursday morning when an elderly cyclist lost his life in a traffic accident involving a car and a van.

The collision occurred at around 10:00 a.m. on Triq Villabate. Police confirmed that the incident involved a Nissan March, driven by a 32-year-old Italian man, and a Peugeot Partner van, driven by a 38-year-old man from the Ivory Coast.

A 38-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Nissan and is believed to be pregnant, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital as a precaution. She was later certified as suffering from minor injuries.

Sadly, the elderly male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquiry has been launched, and police investigations are ongoing.

    How about checking phone data to find out if one of the two cars was speeding excessivly? No car ends up meters off the road doing 60 km/hr. I see these everyday and my heart sinks when Im on a bike going around a bend
