AFM conducts emergency medical evacuation from ship 20 nautical miles off Malta
Earlier this morning, the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) carried out a critical medical evacuation from a livestock vessel located approximately 20 nautical miles east of Malta.
The Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Malta) received an urgent request for assistance via the Malta Vessel Traffic Services, reporting a medical emergency involving one of the vessel’s crew members.
An AFM AW139 helicopter was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the aircrew swiftly and safely airlifted the injured crew member from the vessel.
The patient was then transferred to waiting emergency medical personnel on land, who provided immediate care before transporting them to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment.
The Armed Forces of Malta extended their gratitude to the emergency department staff at Mater Dei Hospital for their collaboration and support during the operation.
