Updated. Breaking: Homicide in Bidnija

The police have arrested a 46 year old man man minutes after he allegedly committed a homicide in Bidnija.

It appears that the incident began with an argument between two drivers following a traffic accident, during which one driver allegedly drew a firearm and fired shots at the other driver. The victim got into his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene but stopped in Burmarrad, where an ambulance was called. He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital but unfortunately was certified dead shortly afterward.

Informed sources who spoke to The Maltese Herald said that the victim was a 53 year old from Bidnija named Jean Paul Busuttil. The alleged aggressor is a 46 year old man also from Bidnija but who has not been named as yet. It appears that the victim and the aggressor knew each other prior to the incident.

From his LinkedIN and Facebook profiles it appears that Busuttil was a businessman involved in the real estate and renewable energy sector. He also appears to be a relative of the Francis Busuttil and Sons family which operate the Foster Clarks brand. In an extensive profile, Busuttil is described as a successful businessman, the Chairman and a director of Luxury Living plc. He is also the founder of Luxury Living Finance plc which is also listed on the Malta Stock Exchange.

While the aggressor was immediately arrested, police are still conducting a search in nearby fields for the firearm used.

Magistrate Dr I. Farrugia LLD has been informed of the case and has appointed a magisterial inquiry.
