It is quite shocking how quickly the moderates and centrists in the Nationalist Party have come to embrace the worst-case scenario of the party transforming into a populist movement with Adrian Delia as its prospective leader.
There is even no sign of them of organising an alternative candidate showing effectively total resignation to the fate of the party as a populist movement.
The Nationalist Party is betting on populism with the likes of Franco Debono at its helm to attract Labour Party voters as opposed to attracting the ever growing number of people who are not voting for any party. I can hardly see this strategy as effective, to say the least. In fact, I think they are being delusional and will come to regret their current resignation later on
