Man arrested at Malta Airport with cocaine capsules worth €300,000 in his stomach

A 53-year-old Nigerian man was arrested upon arrival at Malta International Airport after being found with around one kilogram of suspected cocaine hidden in his stomach.

The arrest took place late Wednesday evening, following joint inspections by the Police, Customs officials, and Detention Services, targeting passengers arriving from Brussels.

The man raised suspicions during screening, and an x-ray confirmed he had ingested a significant number of capsules. He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where tests revealed he had swallowed approximately 100 capsules containing suspected high-purity cocaine, with an estimated street value of €300,000.

The suspect is currently under arrest as investigations continue, and was arraigned in court today before Magistrate Monica Vella.
