Malta is set to become the center of global gymnastics this July, as it welcomes over 300 athletes from 28 international clubs for its biggest international gymnastics event in over 25 years. Organised by GymStars Gymnastics Club, the multi-day competition and elite training camp will bring together talent from across five continents, firmly placing Malta on the international gymnastics map.
Clubs from countries such as South Africa, Italy, Slovenia, Poland, Monaco, France, Greece, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates—among others—will converge on the island to participate in this high-profile event, showcasing the global growth and reach of artistic gymnastics.
Following the competition, GymStars will host the Sunlive WAG International Training Camp, a prestigious training program aligned with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) standards. The camp will feature sessions conducted by world-renowned Olympic-level coaches and experts, providing a unique and invaluable development opportunity for aspiring gymnasts.
Spotlight on Local Talent
Malta’s own gymnasts will feature prominently in the event. Among the local stars:
-
Sophie St John, gold medalist at the recent Games of the Small States of Europe,
-
Lyana Curmi Inguanez, a rising star in the national team,
-
The “Dou Twins,” Janet and Julia Galea, known for their dynamic performances and technical precision.
These athletes will train and compete alongside elite gymnasts from around the world, including a bronze medalist from Iceland and numerous other international standouts.
Elevating Coaching Standards
Running parallel to the athlete training sessions, Sunlive Malta will also organise a series of professional coaching workshops. These will be led by Olympic-level tutors, aimed at developing coaching strategies and enhancing technical skills within the broader gymnastics community.
Nataliya Berehova, Malta’s national High-Performance Coach, will play a leading role throughout the training camp. A central figure in the development of Maltese gymnastics, Berehova will also continue her work with Sophie St John as they prepare for their next international assignment in Croatia, following Sophie’s recent success in Andorra.
A Milestone for Maltese Gymnastics
This landmark event underscores Malta’s growing capabilities as a host for elite-level sporting events, as well as its commitment to developing world-class gymnastics talent.
GymStars Gymnastics Club extends its deepest gratitude to SportMalta, the Malta Gymnastics Federation, and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) for their continued support in making this international showcase a reality.
As hundreds of athletes and coaches descend on Malta this summer, the island will not only host a competition—it will celebrate the future of gymnastics, inspire young athletes, and strengthen its position in the global sporting arena.
