While the Nationalist Party is busy dealing with a leadership campaign, the Labour government has been passing controversial amendments in laws in parliament without consultation or much debate. One of these reforms include a law against fake news. Now, the Labour government is passing a Constitutional amendment in parliament which restricts the publication of information on grounds of national security.
The amendments also reiterate the protection of journalists’ sources. However the amendment lists various grounds prohibiting the publication of information including a provision against influencing the independence of the judiciary. Undoubtedly, if the amendment is passed, it could also affect the appeal of my Constitutional case because Judge Toni Abela is accusing me of having published the chats to influence the judiciary, something which of course, I deny.
