Malta’s golden passport scheme officially shut down

The Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, has announced that the official changes ending Malta’s Individual Investor Program have today been published in the Government Gazette effectively ending the scheme. The legal amendments can be found here.

The government has retained the right to award citizenship to foreign persons who make an exceptional contribution to the Maltese Republic via employment and investment.

The scheme was struck down by the European Court of Justice which deemed it in violation of the Treaty of the European Union for commercialising nationality.

    Is there an article explaining how the exceptional contribution get valued and awarded please?
