Italian journalist films the interior of Wildlife Animal Park Malta

An Italian journalist has came to Malta and filmed the interior of the Wildlife Animal Park in Mtaħleb, Rabat. Enrico Rizzi said that he was struck by the overwhelming suffering of the animals as soon as he entered the irregular zoo. The animals, including tigers and bears are kept under 40 degrees Celsius of heat in very confined and small places.

The journalist was also allowed to enter the cage of a tiger and take a photo with it and said that that the tiger was visibly and clearly drugged. The feature was made in collaboration with Vuċi għall-Annimali.

Enrico Rizzi concluded his feature by saying that he doesn’t how people can enjoy themselves taking photos with these animals as if everything is normal.

The Wildlife Animal Park was was burnt down in 2017 in an accident that killed many of its animals. Despite his recklessness, Christopher Borg was allowed to rebuild his wild animal  depot and turned his collection of caged animals into a “zoo”.

The Labour government has liberalised the keeping and trading of wild animals in Malta, leading to the inevitable and widespread abuse that comes with this exploitative industry.
