Xavier Rizzo (snooker) and Blake Theuma Dougall (kickboxing) have been awarded the Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month for June.
Sixteen-year-old Rizzo claimed the Second Division Snooker Championship title with a 4-1 victory over Ian Camilleri. Both players will now be promoted to the First Division under the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association.
Meanwhile, nine-year-old Theuma Dougall became the youngest Maltese kickboxer to win the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) International Title Belt. He secured the title after defeating Greece’s Matteos Kodos during Under Siege, an event organised by The Arena Combat Sports Promotions.
The awards were presented by Atlas Insurance Managing Director and CEO Matthew von Brockdorff, with the Malta Sports Journalists Association represented by administrator Stephen Azzopardi.
A joint initiative between Atlas Insurance and the Malta Sports Journalists Association, the monthly award recognises outstanding achievements by young athletes under 21. All monthly winners are automatically considered for the annual award.
