UPDATE:
The man who tragically lost his life after encountering difficulties while swimming at Ħondoq Bay has been identified as Salvu Vella, a 73-year-old resident of Qala, Gozo.

Yesterday at around 6:30pm, police were called to assist near Ħondoq Bay, in Qala, Gozo, after a 73-year-old man, resident of Qala, encountered difficulties while swimming.
Bystanders pulled the man out of the water and provided initial assistance before a medical team arrived and transported him to Gozo General Hospital.
Tragically, he was certified dead shortly after.
A magisterial inquiry led by Simone Grech has been launched. Police investigations are ongoing.
