UPDATED:
Police have confirmed that the 24-year-old man involved in the incident was certified to have sustained minor injuries.
The Magisterial inquiry and police investigations are still ongoing.
This morning at around 10:30 a.m., police were alerted to a serious traffic accident in Triq il-Mosta, Ħal Lija.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the collision involved a Renault Trafic van driven by a 24-year-old man from Mtarfa and a Suzuki Swift driven by an 81-year-old man from Mosta. A 79-year-old woman, also from Mosta, was a passenger in the Suzuki.
Members of the Civil Protection Department and medical teams were called to the scene, and all three individuals were transported to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
Tragically, the elderly woman was later certified dead. The 81-year-old man is in critical condition, while the condition of the van driver is still pending.
Magistrate Ian Farrugia has been informed and appointed an inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing.
