Italian man extradited to Malta over armed robbery in St Paul’s Bay

Following intensive investigations into an armed robbery that took place last year, authorities have identified a suspect who had reportedly fled Malta shortly after the crime.

Through a European Arrest Warrant, an Italian national was apprehended in Italy, and extradition procedures were immediately initiated. Late on Tuesday night, the man was brought back to Malta under arrest from Rome, escorted by three Maltese police officers.

The Italian is wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred on 16th January 2024, at around 10:30 p.m., when a man allegedly armed with a knife entered a gaming shop in Triq iċ-Ċern, St Paul’s Bay. He fled the scene after stealing a sum of cash.

The suspect is set to appear in court today at around 10:30 a.m. before Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit, where he will be formally charged in relation to the robbery.
