The Malta Beach Soccer National Team celebrated a landmark moment on Friday, 25th July 2025, by securing its first-ever victory in the Euro Beach Soccer League.
Facing Norway in a Division B encounter at the Stabia Beach Arena in Castellammare di Stabia, Malta made the most of a second-period turning point. The dismissal of Norwayโs Amund Haaland Aano shifted the momentum, and Malta quickly capitalised with Lee Joe Schembri opening the scoring.
Moments later, Daryl Micallef added a second to put Malta firmly in control heading into the final period.
Micallef struck again early in the third period, extending Maltaโs lead to 3-0. Although the team had several opportunities to further increase the margin, they were unable to convert.
Norway mounted a late comeback with goals from Andreas Skotheimsvik and Sebastian Haga, but Malta held firm to secure a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Coach Marco Casarsaโs side will now look to build on this breakthrough performance when they face Romania on Saturday 26th July at 12:30hrs, followed by a final group match against Kazakhstan on Sunday 27th July at 11:15hrs.
