Nationalist Party MPs react to The Maltese Herald’s article with denial: “We are not supporting either candidate,” they say

Nationalist Party MPs reacted to The Maltese Herald‘s article on their preference for their party leader with the most childish and nonsensical manner possible: together they coordinated a campaign of denial declaring that they are not supporting either candidate.

Obviously, and supposedly, this is meant to show that the Nationalist Party is united. Somehow, the evil press is trying to divide the Nationalist Party. On the other hand, this is a very simple and basic preference on who will they vote as their party leader: a decision which reflects their political character, preferences and values.

They can’t be bothered to tell the truth apart from carrying an overwhelming sense of arrogance in imposing on the press their own message which the press didn’t ask for: it doesn’t work that way. The press should not serve as a platform for the press releases of political parties and the announcements of their policies: the press should serve to deliver facts, tell stories and explain matters to the public.

The voting preference of Nationalist Party MPs in the leadership campaign is something that the public is interested to know. If Nationalist MPs want to be truthful and transparent, they should admit to the public that they decided between each other not to disclose their support to any candidate as part of a party policy to project a united party.ย  This is of course highly unusual.

Darren Carabott encapsulated their nonsense presciently as he said that Nationalist MPs are in no list other than in the list of Malta.

Whatever.

Why should the PN MP’s publicly disclose their preference, why should they influence us the PN members by their preference ? The choice we are about to make should be ours the PN members, based on the quality, capabilities and vision for the Party at this stage, and eventually for the Country.
