A 63-year-old man from Naxxar tragically lost his life earlier today following a workplace-related accident at the Park & Ride facility in Floriana.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:45pm when authorities were alerted to a man who had sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Police rushed to the scene, where initial investigations revealed that a Mercedes Citaro bus, for reasons still under investigation, began moving on its own and pinned the man between the side of the bus and a wall.
A medical team from Mater Dei Hospital arrived promptly and the victim was transported by ambulance for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he was certified dead shortly after arrival.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud has been notified and appointed a number of experts to assist in the magisterial inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) to determine the cause of the incident and whether any negligence was involved.
