Final farewell held in Valletta for Dr Anthony Spiteri Debono

Earlier today, a final farewell was held for Dr Anthony Spiteri Debono, the husband of Malta’s President, Myriam Spiteri Debono. The funeral took place at the Collegiate Basilica of St Paul’s Shipwreck in Valletta, where the late notary was honoured in a solemn ceremony following his passing on 24th July 2025, at the age of 78.

President Myriam Spiteri Debono expressed her heartfelt thanks to the Maltese authorities and dignitaries who paid their respects, including Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, who led the service, Prime Minister Robert Abela, Cabinet members, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, Members of Parliament, and other public figures.

In her message, the President also extended her gratitude to all those who offered condolences in recent days. She gave special thanks to the public for showing solidarity while also respecting the family’s wish for privacy during this time of mourning.

Dr Spiteri Debono, a respected notary and public figure, is remembered not only for his professional legacy but also for his steady presence as a supportive partner throughout his wife’s public service.
