First Gentleman, Notary Anthony Spiteri Debono, passes away

Notary Anthony Spiteri Debono, the husband of Malta’s President Myriam Spiteri Debono, has passed away following health complications. His death was announced earlier today.

Spiteri Debono is remembered not only as a respected legal professional but also as a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, President Myriam Spiteri Debono, their three children – Elena, George, and Maria Kristina- and four grandchildren: Alexandra, Paul, Pippa, and Beppe.

During the early days of his wife’s appointment as Head of State, Spiteri Debono acknowledged that their lives had suddenly become more fast-paced and public. Despite the changes, he consistently offered his unwavering support, standing firmly by her side throughout her presidency.

Tributes are expected to follow in the coming hours as the nation mourns the passing of the President’s long-time partner.
