ADPD Leader Sandra Gauci urges the Prime Minister to decriminalise abortion

ADPD Leader Sandra Gauci has published a personal message addressed directly to Prime Minister Robert Abela, written in her personal capacity rather than in her role as party leader. In the message, Sandra Gauci appealed to the Prime Minister to decriminalise abortion, noting that, like her, he has a daughter who may one day need access to that option. She urged him to reflect personally on what might happen if his daughter were to require medical assistance in such circumstances.

Sandra Gauci also urged the Prime Minister to remove the criminal record from the woman who was handed a suspended prison sentence for an abortion. ADPD has so far been the only political party to call for the decriminalisation of abortion.

Over the weekend, the Prime Minister stated that he is considering amending abortion laws to prevent doctors from reporting abortion cases to the police, but the Labour Party and the government have no mandate to decriminalise abortion .

Sandra Gauci’s message is being published below.
