Malta was once again represented on the international hockey stage as Keith Calleja officiated at the Euro Hockey Championship III, held in Kirklareli, Turkey, between late July and early August 2025.
Calleja, an experienced and respected official, was appointed to oversee four menโs matches during the tournament, including notable clashes such as Finland vs Luxembourg (2โ2), Lithuaniaโs 3โ1 victory over Luxembourg, and Hungaryโs tight 3โ2 win against Finland. His performances demonstrated consistency, impartiality, and a strong command of the game.
In addition to his on-field duties, Calleja also served as reserve umpire in other fixtures, a role that requires constant readiness and a thorough understanding of the dynamics of the tournament.
This latest appointment adds to Callejaโs growing international experience, having previously officiated at the Euro Hockey ID Championships in Amsterdam in 2022.
A member of Qormi Hockey Club, Calleja remains deeply involved in the development of the sport locally, contributing as an umpire, mentor, and advocate for hockey in Malta.
His involvement in Turkey marks another significant step in his officiating journey and serves as a positive example for aspiring Maltese umpires looking to reach the international level.
