Archeologists petition Parliament to save prehistoric archeological site in Xagħra, Gozo

Local archeologists are sounding the alarm that an ongoing construction development will permanently damage and erase the prehistoric heritage in Ta’ Lablab area of Xagħra Gozo that also includes a megalithic temple. The site includes a prehistoric temple called the Santa Verna Temple and a burial site with prehistoric remains has already been bulldozed. Caves are also currently being demolished. You can sign the petition here.

Archeologists are describing the site, which dates back to 5000 BC as one of the most well preserved prehistoric sites in Malta. The site will be covered with up to 18 houses and two swimming pools. A protest has also been planned.

A protest will be held starting at the Viewpoint, near the Xagħra cemetery on the 23rd August at 5AM. ADPD Leader Sandra Gauci will be present along with Momentum Leader Arnold Cassola and PN election candidate Luke Said.
