Yesterday, at around noon, police were informed that a man had fallen in the area of Santa Marija Cave near Riviera Bay, in the limits of Mġarr.
Police immediately went to the site and requested assistance from the Armed Forces of Malta, a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital, and members of the Civil Protection Department.
A patrol boat and helicopter were deployed, and a rescue operation was launched. The man, an 18-year-old French national, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment. He was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries and was placed in danger of dying.
Magistrate Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and appointed a magisterial inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing.
