French President Emmanuel Macron is retaining a defiant tone against Vladimir Putin despite efforts and pressure on Ukraine to capitulate by President Donald Trump. President Macron said that Europe can never recognise the Russian territorial acquisitions in Ukraine because doing so would end the international rules-based order.
President Macron said that Vladimir Putin is “a predator and a cannibal at Europe’s gates” who is spending up to 40% of his country’s budget on war and military expenditure. President Macron reiterated that Vladimir Putin does not want peace.
Despite his defiant tone on Vladimir Putin President Macron welcomed security guarantees that have been provided by the US and that this measure helps clear the direction for peace he said. The French President also mentioned a robust Ukrainian army that would be able to withstand any attacks by Russia and there will be limits on its level of rearmament. President Macron also reiterated that the next steps include a series of talks and a ceasefire because it is not possible to hold talks while bombs are falling. An effort is being made to organsie a bilateral meeting between President Zelensky and Vladimir Putin the French President said.
