Malta top group after beating Georgia in U18 European Water Polo Championships

Malta’s U18 men’s water polo team continued their fine run in Oradea by defeating Georgia 13-8, a result that sealed top spot in their group at the European Aquatics U18 Men’s Elite Championships.

The Maltese side delivered a confident display, showcasing their depth in attack with ten different players finding the net. Max Lanzon, Sam Engerer, Luigi Dimech, and Giancarlo Gatt all struck twice, while Miguel Cassar, Sean Mifsud, Jayden Cutajar, Julian Chircop, and Enrico Mallia added a goal each to round off the scoring.

The balance across the team proved decisive, as Malta controlled the tempo and never allowed Georgia to mount a serious comeback. The victory not only underlined the squad’s growing maturity but also confirmed their status as group winners.

This achievement sets up a high-profile crossover encounter with Serbia tonight, a traditional powerhouse of European water polo. The match will be a major test of Malta’s progress at this level, but confidence in the camp is high after their unbeaten run in the group stage.
