The Libyan Prosecutor General (Tripoli) has issued a statement saying it has arrested and imprisoned the individual who filmed his lion attacking migrant workers. The Prosecutor said that the individual was previously handed a total of 14 years in various prison sentences which were handed to him in absentia and have now been made effective with his detention.
The translation of the statement is provided below.
The Public Prosecution is taking measures regarding violent conduct that was publicly disseminated.
Media outlets and social media accounts circulated video recordings showing disgraceful behavior that violated religious principles, the law, and basic humanity. The act consisted of a so-called โjokeโ that revealed the perpetratorโs foolishness, crudeness, and disregard for his fellow human beings, by inciting a predatory animalโspecifically, a lion under his controlโagainst the victims who appeared in the videos. He deliberately instilled fear in their hearts, mocking and ridiculing them, without any consideration for the harmful consequences of such reprehensible behavior on the victims or on viewers.
Accordingly, the Public Prosecution ordered the search for the perpetrator (the possessor and inciter of the predatory animal). He was apprehended and brought in for questioning. Following interrogation, the Prosecution ordered his pretrial detention pending investigation, enforcing prior in absentia rulings that had sentenced him to prison terms totaling fourteen years
