Joseph Muscat is taking credit for the qualification of Ħamrun Spartans Football Cub to the UEFA Conference League. This is the third placed European League after the Champions League and Europa League.
This is the first time in Maltese history that a local football club has qualified to a European league.
Joseph Muscat is the chairman of the Malta Premier League, a position he got with the support of individuals like Joseph Portelli who currently owns the Ħamrun football club. The MPL was previously the Malta Professional Football Clubs Association.
Those who think Joseph Muscat is not playing politics are deluding themselves. He has remained in the public spotlight since 2019 because he needs tools and options to protect himself from inevitable, ongoing prosecution over serious corruption charges. Muscat seeks leverage over the government to force it to interfere with the authorities so that he is protected. He also wants the option to return to politics if the government fails to protect him.
In addition, he thinks, that his alleged management successes in football will be convincing enough to forgive him. Convictus needs the “Prosit Ministru” vibes to keep him going.
