Russia’s cultural centres in Europe which double as propaganda hubs and intelligence centres for Russia’s security and intelligence services will keep operating in Britain and Europe despite Russia’s deliberate attack against the British Council in Kyiv, yesterday. The attack also damaged the offices of the EU Delegation.
Footage of the attack can be viewed below with Russia using two missiles nearly at the same time to hit the British Council.ย
Russia’s cultural centres in Europe are usually called theย Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Russian House or Pushkin House. The centres have been operating in Britain and Europe with no restrictions despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The centres serve as propaganda outlets for Russia but are also used as cover for spies who disguise themselves as government cultural officers. In February of this year, the French authorities temporarily blocked bank accounts of the Maison Russe in Paris as the authorities clamped down on Russian spies entering the country with some of the spies including diplomats and employees of the Russian cultural centres.ย
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer did not announce any retaliatory measures to the attack against the British Council.
