The eccentric Labour MP, Katya De Giovanni, has published a statement on her social media saying that she celebrated the 80-year anniversary of China’s victory over fascism at the Chinese Embassy. This is deceiving and what’s actually going on is more complicated.
China is indeed celebrating its victory over fascism while invoking an 80 year anniversary. The celebrations are actually an excuse for China to display its military might and send a political message of intransigent belligerence. China is holding a military parade in Beijing for the second time in ten years to celebrate its victory in World War Two. Anyone who is participating in thie celebrations is giving tacit acknowledgement of China’s belligerence and imperial policy.
Here is also the main reason why China’s celebrations are very bizarre. The Communist Party of China has no legacy or heritage related to the Second World War and if it does have a connection to World War Two it’s indirectly and in favour of the Japanese. Any decent and standard historian knows that Communist Party of China withdrewย from the front-lines in the Second World War and avoided completely from clashing with the Japanese army leaving the Kuomintang to exclusively and single-handedly face the Japanese. The Communists were only involved in sporadic and small guerilla actions against the Japanese, which were often also very opportunistic and had no strategic value.
Mao Tse-Tung lay low and strategically kept his fighters away from fierce battles against the Japanese so as to be able to fight an exhausted Kuomintang after the war ended. Mao Tse-Tungโs strategy paid great dividends, because after the Second World War he unleashed the full force of war against the same Chinese soldiers who had dedicated their lives to defending China from the Japanese.
China is today re-writing history to add propagandistic fuel to its imperial policy. Politicians who fall for China’s lies are either willingly endorsing China’s ongoing imperial belligerence or they are outright ignorant about it. China is holding a military parade with the excuse of the Second World War to display its military might, and make a belligerent point against the West and our allies. The only Chinese country that legitimately should organise a Victory Parade to celebrate end of World War 2 is Taiwan.
Also note, that during yesterday’s press conference with Katya De Giovanni was Alex Sciberras Trigona, the Labour Party’s top diplomat during Dom Mintoff. He’s a rabid pro-China communist and he fly China’s flag in any case and situation for ideological and orthodox reasons.
Katya De Giovanni is the same government MP who once asked the government to adopt Hungary’s position on ReArm Europe.
