Communists who ruled Nepal for more than a decade overturned in less than forty-eight hours

The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), led by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, has lost power following a youth-led uprising that lasted just two days. The unrest was sparked by the government’s unilateral ban on major social-media platforms, which enraged Gen Z protesters already frustrated with corruption and economic stagnation.

Demonstrators stormed Singha Durbar (parliament and the central administrative complex), set fire to government buildings—including the prime minister’s residence and parliament—and clashed violently with police. At least 19 people were killed, and hundreds were injured before Oli resigned under mounting pressure.

Minister KP Sharma Oli’s private residence was sacked along with the residences of government ministers.
