A 44-year-old man from Gambia has been arrested in connection with the importation of around 10 kilograms of cannabis resin, with an estimated street value of €100,000.
The man arrived in Malta on 30th August from Lisbon, Portugal, but left the airport without collecting his luggage. Inside the unclaimed baggage, police discovered 40 packets containing the suspected drug.
Following an intensive search, investigators managed to trace the man’s whereabouts, and he was arrested in Żabbar on Thursday.
Magistrate Joseph Mifsud was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry, while police investigations led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
The man is being held at the Floriana police lock-up and is expected to be arraigned in court today at around 11:00am before Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace.
