Four men were left battling serious injuries in a series of separate accidents across Malta over the weekend, with two of them reported to be in critical condition.
The first case occurred on Saturday morning at around 11:00 a.m. in the White Rocks area of Pembroke, where a 24-year-old man from San Ġwann suffered severe burns. Police said he had poured fuel to ignite cardboard and plastic items, but the fire spread and caused extensive injuries. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital in a private vehicle and remains in danger of losing his life. Magistrate Monica Borg Galea appointed an inquiry while investigations continue.
Later that evening, at about 9:00 p.m., a traffic accident took place in Triq il-Perit Dom Mintoff, Paola. A 54-year-old man from Marsa lost control of his Honda Fit and crashed into a pole. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was certified to be in critical condition.
That same night, at around 11:00 p.m., a 69-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay was seriously injured after crashing his Mercedes B180 in Dawret San Pawl il-Baħar. The vehicle hit the pavement, overturned, and landed on its roof in a nearby field.
Just two hours later, at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, another accident occurred in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, Msida. A Honda CB650 motorcycle, ridden by a 34-year-old man from Ta’ Xbiex, collided with a Mazda Demio driven by a 24-year-old man from Birgu. Both drivers were hospitalised and certified to have sustained serious injuries.
All four incidents are under investigation, while separate magisterial inquiries have been appointed.
