Malta’s Voice for Choice coalition staged a demonstration outside Mater Dei Hospital earlier today, holding a banner that read: “I came seeking help and ended up in court.” The slogan refers to a recent case in which a woman was reportedly referred to the police after seeking medical assistance at the national hospital (Mater Dei) following a self-managed abortion using abortion pills.
The group also announced a major protest which will be held next week in Valletta entitled “Abortion is not a crime”. In their press release, they also stated that the government is increasing the stigma on abortion by preserving current laws and reiterated that abortion should be treated as an autonomous decision that requires medical assistance.
