UPDATED: Victim of Birgu shooting dies, identified as Kyle Mifsud

Police have confirmed that the 33-year-old man from Bormla, who was seriously injured in yesterdayโ€™s shooting in Triq il-Qalb taโ€™ ฤ esรน, Birgu, has died at Mater Dei Hospital during the night.

The victim has been identified as Kyle Mifsud.

He had been certified as being in a critical condition after allegedly being shot with a firearm.

The alleged aggressor, a 70-year-old man from Birgu, remains under arrest.

A magisterial inquiry, led by Magistrate Monica Borg Galea, is underway, while police investigations are ongoing.


EARLIER:

On Sunday, at around 1:00 p.m., police were informed that their assistance was needed in Triq il-Qalb taโ€™ ฤ esรน, Birgu.

Police officers immediately went to the scene, where they found a 33-year-old man from Bormla injured, allegedly as a result of a firearm.

A medical team provided assistance on site, and the man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where he was certified to be in a serious condition and is in danger of dying.

The alleged aggressor, a 70-year-old man from Birgu, was arrested by police in the vicinity of the incident.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry. Police investigations are ongoing.

A 33-year-old man from Cospicua is in critical condition after having been shot by a 70-year-old man in Triq il Qalb ta’ Gesu, Birgu, earlier this afternoon.

It appears that an argument ensued between the two men, which eventually escalated and resulted in shots being fired. The wounded man has been taken to the hospital and is in critical condition, whilst the alleged shooter has been arrested. Sources who spoke to The Maltese Herald confirmed that the man is in imminent danger of losing his life
