Following a sideline meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine can win the war with EU support and that the United States will continue supplying weapons to NATO, with no conditions on how NATO members may use them. He also described Russia as “a paper tiger” given that Russia has failed to win the war.
Russia has also failed to make any advances in Pokrovsk in the recent weeks despite concentrating most of its forces in the Donetsk and Donbas regions in preparation for a major push westward. Russian forces are facing serious logistical issues as Ukrainians are constantly hitting their supply lines and munitions. Russia is also going through a severe gasoline crisis after Ukraine destroyed most of Russia’s oil refining capabilities.
During his speech at the General Assembly, President Trump reiterated his calls to Europeans to stop buying oil. Questioned by the press following his meeting President Zelensky, President Trump was asked about Viktor Orban and Hungary given that Hungary is one Europe’s serial offenders in Russian oil purchases. President Trump said that he would speak to Viktor Orban and convince him to stop buying Russian oil.
Questioned about whether NATO should shoot down Russian aerial objects in its territory, President Trump affirmed in the positive. At an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned Russia that Poland will be shooting down Russian aerial objects entering its territory. President Zelensky described the US President’s new position as a big shift and described the meeting as the most substantive one till now.
