Prime Minister Robert Abela has just announced that the in the upcoming budget, the government will be issuing enough financial incentives for couples to have their second and third child if the financial situation is prohibiting them from doing so. He added that the financial situation should absolutely not be a prohibiting factor for couples to have more children.
The measures are being proposed amid rising concerns about Malta’s rapidly declining birth-rate.
Politicians from both sides of Parliament are racing to propose measures to tackle Maltaโs falling birth rate, turning it into a major national issue. The Nationalist Party, for its part, is advocating additional tax incentives for couples. The race is on to present the best policies to raise Maltaโs birth rate.
