Billionaire Andrej Babiš and his populist party ANO won most of the votes in parliamentary elections but fell shot of winning an absolute majority preliminary results shows. The populist billionaire ran on an anti-inflation ticket, tax cuts and pensions increases. He is against Ukraine joining the European Union. He is also against Czechia sending weapons to Ukraine.
ANO received up to 35% of the vote with SPOLU, the centre-right incumbent in power, receiving up to 24% of the vote. STAN, the liberal and pro-EU party of independents came third with up to 11% of the vote.
A coalition has not yet been formed and another election may be held in six months if no government is formed.
Czechia has helped Ukraine with significant ammunition and missile contributions during the Russian invasion.
