Two people seriously injured in separate traffic accidents in Gudja and Siġġiewi

Two traffic accidents in different parts of Malta left a teenage boy and a woman seriously injured on Friday, police said.

The first crash occurred late in the evening, at around 11pm, in Triq Dawret il-Gudja, Gudja. Preliminary investigations showed that a collision took place between a Suzuki Baleno driven by a 49-year-old man from Swieqi and a Hyundai Getz driven by a 19-year-old man from San Ġwann.

The Hyundai reportedly veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a Renault Captur driven by a 50-year-old man from Rabat.

In the Renault were also a 69-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman, and two children – a 14-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, all residents of Rabat.

A medical team was called to the scene, and the 43-year-old woman and both children were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. The boy was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries, while the woman and the girl sustained minor ones.

Earlier that afternoon, at around 2:30pm, another accident occurred in Triq Ta’ Lawrenti, Siġġiewi, involving a Smart Fortwo driven by a 34-year-old woman from Mellieħa and a Volvo XC40 driven by a 38-year-old man from Qrendi.

The woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where she was later certified as having suffered serious injuries.

Police investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
