The second Match Day of the BOV Amateur League I 2025/26 delivered a thrilling set of fixtures, with Attard maintaining their perfect start, Qrendi producing the upset of the weekend, and Kirkop continuing their impressive form. Zejtun, Qormi, San ฤ wann, and Mellieฤงa also celebrated key victories in a round filled with drama, goals, and pivotal moments across the league.
Attard 2โ1 Mqabba
Attard go two from two
Attard remain the only team with maximum points after overcoming Mqabba 2โ1 at the Centenary Stadium. Daniel Agiusโ side showed great composure, while Mqabba were left to rue several missed chances.
Mqabba started brightly, with Luka Mijic going close early on and Mario Bartolo denying Nicholas Schembri. Saturday Nanapare also tested Zach Valletta from distance.
After the break, Matthew Borg hit the bar for Mqabba before Attard struck first โ Precious Nwankwo finding the bottom corner following a Tejumola Ayorinde assist. Ayorinde was sent off shortly after for a second yellow, but Nick Ghio doubled Attardโs lead with a precise header.
Mqabba pulled one back late through Nanapare, but Vallettaโs heroics in stoppage time sealed all three points for Attard.
Senglea Athletic 2โ6 Qrendi
Qrendi stun Senglea with six-goal show
The biggest surprise of the round came at the Sirens Stadium, where Qrendi dismantled promotion hopefuls Senglea Athletic with an emphatic 6โ2 victory.
Brandon Bray scored twice in the first half, including a stunning long-range opener. A deflected own goal off Jake Stensen made it 3โ0 after the break, before Joseph Ogunuppe added the fourth. Timmy Thomas converted a penalty for Senglea to reduce the deficit, but Qrendi hit back with further strikes from James Lima and Gillmore Azzopardi to cap a sensational win.
Luqa St Andrewโs 2โ5 Kirkop United
Kirkop continue strong start
Kirkop produced another shock result, defeating Luqa St Andrewโs 5โ2 at the Mosta Ground.
James Oghenekewaro gave Kirkop the lead from the penalty spot, with Daryl Vella-Gerada doubling it before half-time. Substitute Dicko Drissa and Miguel Zammit extended the lead to 4โ0 after the break.
Andreas Psaila netted twice for Luqa to give the scoreline some respectability, but Drissaโs second goal ensured a convincing win for Kirkop, who remain unbeaten.
Lija Athletic 1โ2 ลปejtun Corinthians
Late drama sees ลปejtun claim comeback win
Lija Athletic ended the game with eight men, allowing ลปejtun Corinthians to turn the match around and claim a 2โ1 victory.
Lija were dominant early on and took the lead through Erjon Beuโs header. But Mead Mifsudโs second yellow card shortly after the break turned the tide. Ousman Ismailaโs free-kick forced a penalty for ลปejtun, which Stefi Cale converted.
Moments later, Julian Camilleri saw red, further damaging Lijaโs hopes. Cale then scored the winner with a composed finish, sealing all three points for ลปejtun.
Qormi 3โ1 Victoria Hotspurs
Qormi underline promotion credentials
Qormi came from behind to beat Victoria Hotspurs 3โ1 at the Centenary Stadium in an impressive display.
Kurt Borg gave Victoria an early lead, but Liam McKay equalised with a delicate lob before Kieran Fenech completed the turnaround before half-time.
Ferdinando Apap missed a glorious chance to level for Victoria, and Qormi punished the error through a stunning Emmanuel Garba strike. Zerafaโs side then controlled the game to secure an important victory.
Pembroke Athleta 0โ3 San ฤ wann
San ฤ wann secure derby win
Pembroke remain the only side without points after falling 3โ0 to neighbours San ฤ wann.
Adam Falzon opened the scoring with a precise low drive. San ฤ wann remained in control after the break, with Falzon doubling his tally and Jake Grech adding a late third to complete a comfortable win for Xavier Salibaโs promotion hopefuls.
Xgฤงajra Tornados 2โ3 Mellieฤงa
Schranz hat-trick inspires Mellieฤงa
In the early Sirens Stadium fixture, Mellieฤงa clinched their first win of the season with a 3โ2 victory over Xgฤงajra Tornados. Centre-back Sean Schranz stole the show with a remarkable hat-trick โ all from set-pieces.
Mellieฤงa took the lead through Schranzโs first header, but goals from Shaban Chikh Ali turned the match around for Xgฤงajra. Schranz equalised again late on, and after Loumar Cutajarโs dismissal, he struck the winner to seal a memorable win for Mellieฤงa.
