ADPD – Green Party Leader Sandra Gauci says that ERA is refusing to issue monitoring reports of fish-farm slime

The leader of ADPD – the Green Party – has claimed that the Environmental Resources Authority (ERA) is refusing to publish its monitoring reports on slime pollution along Malta’s northern coastline caused by fish farms.

Earlier this year, Buġibba and Saint Paul’s Bay were hit with a slew of slime from fish farms which polluted the bay and risked hurting swimmers. The ADPD Leader, who is also a local councilor for Saint Paul’s Bay, said that it was unacceptable that the governing authority was refusing to collaborate with the local council.

An ERA official replied to the Green Party’s Leader comments saying that he is not aware of this report. ERA has increased its monitoring of fish-farm pollution following the reports earlier this year. Malta’s major tuna-farmers are also major donors of the Labour Party with Charlon Gouder serving as one of their main lobbyists.
