Malta was the only country granted two photo-op slots with President Donald Trump at the UNGA

Malta was the only country granted two photo-op slots with President Donald Trump at the United Nations General Assembly during a reception held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel. It is unusual for a nation-state to have two separate photo-op events at the UN General Assembly.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg obtained an additional Maltese slot after informing the US President of his nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize. He also handed him a copy of the letter personally.

The similarity between the photos sparked rumours and press reports about world leaders posing next to wax figures of the US President and First Lady. World leaders waited in queue for the photo-shoot which was followed with a dinner at the hotel. The US President also gave a very brief speech.

Is it true that Ian Borg spoke to Donald and Melania for a full five minutes before realising he was speaking to wax figures?
