A surveillance operation on several individuals allegedly involved in a criminal network linked to drug trafficking in the Marsa area has led to the arrest of five men.
In recent days, police identified one of the main suspects โ a 53-year-old man from Gลผira โ who was reportedly using a horse stable in Triq in-Nagฤงal as a base for the alleged drug trafficking activity.
Yesterday, police carried out a raid on the location, arresting the 53-year-old man along with four others: a 26-year-old man from Bormla, two 38-year-old men from Wied il-Gฤงajn and Kalkara, and a 43-year-old man from ฤฆal Qormi.
A search of the premises led to the discovery of around 60 sachets containing a substance suspected to be heroin, ready for sale, along with more heroin found in circumstances indicating it was being packaged for distribution. Police also seized approximately 160 sachets containing a suspected synthetic drug, as well as additional quantities of the same substance being prepared for sale.
The total estimated street value of the drugs is around โฌ10,000.
Earlier today, three of the arrested men โ the 26-year-old and the two 38-year-olds โ were brought before Magistrate Dr Leonard Caruana LL.D. in court under arrest. They pleaded not guilty, but bail was denied, and they are being held at the Corradino Correctional Facility.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
