Malta continued to experience strong growth in tourism this year, with the number of inbound visitors rising by 11.7 % during the first nine months of 2025 when compared to the same period in 2024, official figures from NSO show.
Between January and September, a total of 3,075,483 tourists visited the islands, spending an estimated 19.6 million nights – an increase of 10.2 % over last year. Total tourist expenditure reached €3.03 billion, up by 18.7 %, with average spending per capita climbing to €985 from €928 in 2024.
In September alone, 371,238 tourists visited Malta for holiday purposes, while 14,679 travelled for business. Visitors aged 25 to 44 accounted for the largest share at 35.4 %, followed by those aged 45 to 64 at 29.5 %.
British, Italian and Polish residents together represented 46.0 % of all inbound tourists during the month.
The total number of nights spent increased by 8.9 % year-on-year, reaching 2.7 million nights, with 87.1 % spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay stood at 6.8 nights, and average expenditure per night was estimated at €173.3.
Tourism to Gozo and Comino also remained strong, with 247,355 tourists – or 62.8 % of total visitors – travelling to the sister islands in September. Over the first nine months of 2025, 1,824,566 tourists visited Gozo and Comino, accounting for 59.3 % of total inbound visitors.
