Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg has attended the OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Vienna chaired by Finland, earlier today. The Minister attended various conferences and meetings including a meeting on the sidelines with the Foreign Minister of Monaco Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, and a meeting on the return of Ukrainian children from Russia, hosted by Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrrii Sybiha.
A day prior, Malta voted in favour of a UN General Resolution proposed by Albania demanding Russia to return the children it abducted from Ukraine. Vladimir Putin and his Children’s Commissar face war crimes charges by the International Criminal Court for abducting up to tens of thousands of children’s from Ukraine and taking them captive in Russia. Firs Lady Melania Trump is also lobbying for their return. 91 countries voted in favour of the resolution, 12 against and 57 abstained.
On the sidelines the OSCE meeting, Malta presented its Second National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. The plan serves as a policy guide for the government to address and reduce gender-based violence in conflicts and gender-based human rights violations. Malta’s plan includes an emphasis on gender health inequality and human trafficking.
57 members participated in the OSCE meeting along with 11 Partners for Co-operation.
