Mercosur agreement suspended for three months

In the conclusive European Council press conference, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the Mercosur agreement has been postponed with a timeline for the next three months. She added that this new extension should not be a significant setback after 24 years discussions.

An agreement between European leaders was not reached with some countries, notably France and Italy, raising concerns over some issues including on agriculture. Farmers in Brussels and Paris held their regular protests.
