The Maltese senior menโs national water polo team wrapped up their international friendly series in style after securing a thrilling 19โ17 victory over Portugal in the third and final match.
Malta once again got the better of the Portuguese in an entertaining and closely contested encounter, showing resilience and attacking quality throughout. The hosts were led by an inspired performance from Steve Camilleri, who topped the scoring charts with six goals. He was ably supported by Nikolai Zammit, who netted five times, while Ivan Nagaev added four goals to Maltaโs tally. Further contributions came from Liam Galea, Matthew Zammit, Julian Valletta, and Jake Bonavia, who all found the net once.
Portugal remained competitive until the final stages, with Sousa leading their scoring with four goals. Pinto and Teixeira both completed hat-tricks, while Lopes, Giordan,o and Moreira scored two goals each. Machado also got on the scoresheet with a single strike.
The match was officiated by Ronnie Spiteri and Stefan Licari, who kept firm control throughout an intense and fast-paced contest.
