Sliema ASC Swimmers shatter National Records at Short Course Championships

A wave of record-breaking performances marked the recent Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) Short Course National Championships for the 2025/26 season, where Sliema Aquatic Sports Club (ASC) emerged as the overall champions.
Swimmers from various clubs, notably Neptunes WPSC and Sliema ASC, set five new national records during the competition, which took place from December 19-21, 2025, at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

Individual Records

Several elite swimmers delivered standout performances, etching their names into the Maltese swimming history books:
  • Matthew Satarianoย (Sliema ASC) set a new national record in the Men’s 400m Medley with a time ofย 4:20.56.
  • Mya Azzopardiย (Neptunes WPSC), returning from training in the US, broke the Women’s 100m Freestyle national record, clocking an impressiveย 56.20ย seconds and confirming her consistency at the senior level.
  • Sasha Gattย (Sliema ASC) established a new benchmark in the Women’s 400m Freestyle with a time ofย 4:10.92, adding another milestone to her career.
  • Julienne Woodsย (Neptunes WPSC) shattered the longest-standing individual national record in the Women’s 200m Backstroke, with a time ofย 2:22.02.

Relay Dominance

The Neptunes WPSC women’s relay teams were dominant throughout the championships, culminating in a historic team effort in the 4x50m Medley Relay. The quartet ofย Madeleine Cassar, Julienne Woods, Michela Portelli, and Mya Azzopardiย became the first Maltese team to break the two-minute barrier in the event, setting a new national record ofย 1:59.23.
