A 20-year-old British national residing in Naxxar is in critical condition after being involved in a traffic accident in Ħal Lija on Friday evening.
Police were informed of the collision at around 7:00 p.m., which occurred in Triq il-Mosta. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident involved a Volkswagen Golf driven by the 20-year-old man and a Hyundai i20 driven by a 39-year-old man from Luxembourg. A 41-year-old woman was also travelling as a passenger in the Hyundai.
The driver of the Volkswagen had to be extracted from the vehicle with the assistance of members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team. He was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where he was certified to be suffering from serious injuries and is currently in danger of dying.
Magistrate Monica Borg Galea has been informed of the case and has opened an inquiry. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
