The editorial team of The Maltese Herald fully condemns the aggressive and boorish behaviour of Antvin Monsigneur toward a The Maltese Herald journalist, which took place yesterday at a reception hosted by the Malta Sports Journalists Association. Sports journalist Gerald Fenech is a member of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and was cordially invited to the reception, along with all other members.
Antvin Monsigneur is the President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and he was subject to an investigation by The Maltese Herald. Antvin Monsigneur is also a Senior Manager with Sports Malta.
The Maltese Herald will be making the relevant and necessary inquiries to ensure that there is accountability for this incident. In the backdrop of a political discussion on strengthening the protection of journalists, it is ever more important to underscore the importance and the value of journalism whilst ensuring that there is accountability for any attacks against journalists.
