Dar tal-Providenza Fundraiser reaches €1.4 Million by late evening

The start of a new year once more saw Dar tal-Providenza hold its annual fundraiser, the Festa ta’ Ġenerożità (Feast of Generosity), which by 11.30pm had raised a total of €1.4 million.

The New Year’s Day event remains the most important fundraiser of the year for the charity, which provides residential facilities for people with disabilities.

The fundraiser was held at the charity’s main complex in the limits of Siġġiewi, which today comprises three residences: Villa Mons. Gonzi, Villa Papa Giovanni and Villa Papa Luciani. Dar tal-Providenza also operates four community homes: Żerniq in Siġġiewi, Akwarell in Qawra, Dar Pirotta in Birkirkara and Shalom in Żurrieq.

Maintaining these services comes at a considerable cost, with the charity requiring around €7 million annually to keep its homes running. The New Year’s Day fundraiser helps cover a significant portion of this expenditure.

The day’s activities began with a mass celebrated by Archbishop Charles Scicluna at 9.30am, broadcast live on Newsbook Malta and RTK103. This was followed by the fundraising marathon, which started at 10.30am and continued until midnight.
