Speaking to NBC, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the Cuban regime was “in a lot of trouble” when asked whether it could be next after the United States captured Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro in a daring military operation over the weekend. Cuba’s Prsident Miguel Díaz-Canel said that Cubans are ready to risk their lives to defend Venezuela.
Countering accusations of “colonialism”, Secretary Rubio also said that Cuba was in fact one of the colonialists controlling Venezuela and said that the military personnel protecting Maduro were actually Cubans and not Venezuelans.
Secretary Rubio is the son of Cuban migrants who fled Cuba to the United States when Cuba was ruled by the Batista regime.
